Austrian born drummer and composer, Gernot Bernroider, has performed with top ranking musicians throughout Europe and the United States. He has shared the concert stage with renowned artists such as vocalists Annette St. John, Jane Monheit, Charenee Wade, Valerie Holiday (Three Degrees) and music legends such as Dr. Billy Taylor, Ron Carter, Benny Powell (Count Basie), as well as Dick Oatts (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), Mike Holober, Donny McCaslin, Ingrid Jensen, Wycliffe Gordon, Vernon Reid (Living Color), Mark Egan, Jim McNeely, Craig Harris, Jane Getter, Mino Cinelu, Essiet Essiet, Brian Charette, Dave Scott, Jon Irabagon, Michael Wolff, Stefon Harris, Marc Mommas, Eric Lewis, Earl Gardner, Ron Affif, Reggie Washington to name a few. He has also performed in large ensembles such as the New York Jazzharmonic Big Band, Hudson River Big Band, Greg Ruvolo’s Big Band Collective and has played for the Abundant Life Church in Brooklyn, New York.
A featured artist with the Adam Rafferty Trio, the Nakujabe Ensemble and the Oulipians for several concert tours throughout Europe, Mr. Bernroider has received great critical acclaim as a brilliant technician with unique style (“Schwäbisches Tagblatt”). In New York, Mr. Bernroider has performed at well known jazz venues such as Birdland, Lincoln Center, Smalls, 55 Bar, Cleopatra’s Needle, Detour, Smoke Jazz Club as well as Merkin Concert Hall. Gernot received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 1997 and his Master of Arts degree from City College of New York in 2004. In 2003 Mr. Bernroider traveled to Ghana, West Africa, where he performed with the African percussion ensemble “Sankofa Root 2”.
Inspired by world music, culture, and literature, Bernroider, created the jazz-fusion ensemble “The Oulipians.” The Oulipians had their much anticipated US debut at the renowned New York City Blue Note and a European debut at the Outreach Festival in Austria last summer, where it received rave reviews to sold out shows as well as a European wide radio broadcast on ORF and WDR. The group has performed at venues such as Dizzy’s Coca Cola, Brucknerhaus Linz, Gmunden Festwochen, The Zinc Bar, St. Peter’s All Nite Soul and the Brooklyn Lyceum.
